Bruce
Fairclough,
of Beccles, on 6 April 2007. Bruce enlisted on a regular
engagement in February 1954 and joined The Queens Own (Royal
West Kent Regiment). His twin Brian, enlisting at the same time,
chose to join The Royal Norfolk Regt. Later, deciding they
wished to serve together, Brian claimed his brother and Bruce
joined ‘C’ Coy the 1st Bn at Roman Way Camp, Colchester. Bruce
remained with ‘C’ Coy attaining the rank of Cpl and served the
whole of the Battalion’s tour in Cyprus. On return to the UK and
completion of three years service Bruce left the army. In
civilian life Bruce was a builder. He was a keen fisherman,
later developing an interest in metal detecting which he
followed through by fully researching his 'finds'. Bruce is
survived by his wife Pauline, daughter Julie and son Robert.

George
Fisher
of the Norwich War Memorial Cottages on 15 May 2007, aged 86. He
joined the R Norfolk Regt before the outbreak of WW2 and later
transferred to the Parachute Regt where he spend most of his
service. He is survived by his widow Janette and a daughter.

Ted
Thackeray
of Norwich on 27 Aug 07, aged 88. He joined the 4th Bn in May
1936 and served until 1946, latterly with the Z Reserve. Called
up in Aug 1939 he spent 2 years in England before going to
Singapore where he was a PoW from 14 Feb 1942 to 16 Aug 1945.

Peter Whiteman
of Woking on 24 Oct 2004. He came as a reinforcement to 1 R
Norfolk in Korea via JRBD and joined No 3 Section MMG Pl on Hill
355 in June 1952. He remained with the MMGs, through to Hong
Kong until, in mid 1953, moving to the MT as Technical Storeman.
As a Cpl he took over the Tech Stores in early 1955. On
completing his regular engagement Peter later joined 4 R Norfolk
and served with Support Coy, again with MMGs, attaining the rank
of Sgt. Peter was a member of the Surrey Branch British Korean
Veterans Association. John Denny
