| JOHN SPENCER LEE David Lee of Eastleigh, Hampshire, wrote: ‘Returning from attending the grave of my uncle John Spencer Lee at Le Paradis, which was indeed very moving, I wonder if there is anyone who knew him. I have photographs of him in uniform and have kept a place in my heart for the sacrifice he and all the Norfolks made on that day. My father, Tom Lee, John’s younger brother, lost an arm fighting in Burma. I cannot tell you how proud I am of my family and what they achieved in protecting our freedom. I lived in Gorleston until I joined The Royal Marines in 1958 but regularly visit Norfolk.’ ‘I congratulate you on an excellent informative and comprehensive history of the Massacre at Le Paradis’. He served with the Royal Norfolks as a despatch rider and was taken POW during WW2. Thankfully and amazingly he returned home. He passed on in 1982 due to cancer. I would be very grateful if you could direct me to any website that would provide me any information on my father.’ (Lawrie was directed to the ‘Seeking Old Comrades and Family’ B&C Site page. | ARTHUR BLAKE, KOREA 1951-2 Kim Lester wrote on behalf of his father-in-law Arthur Blake, ex-B Coy R Norfolk in Korea 1951-52. He especially seeks LCpl Bob Brice, whom he met at the Harwich transit camp, and Dilley Boon of A section MT Coy. Our Regimental guru on all matters Korea, Maj John Denny, made some enquiries. From a B Coy veteran there is a hazy memory of a 'Dilley' and a suggestion that Brice was Price; Price used to live at King’s Lynn but moved to London, where the trail ends. Arthur would also like to meet any other former comrades. [B&C 105] |

| EDWIN
‘TED’ GEORGE JOHNSON Doug Johnson telephoned RHQ when the Norfolk Editor was present, seeking further information on his late father Ted, kia on 16 Oct 1944, at Molem Beek (click for the obituary). RHQ archives revealed Ted had joined the Regimental Association on 13 May 1933. Photocopies of pages from the Suffolk Section Jun 05 B&C 104, an account of the Sep 04 visit to Belgium and the Netherlands, and from the book by Capt John Lincoln MC ‘Thank God and the Infantry’ concerning events preceding 16 Oct 1944 were left in RHQ for Doug. He subsequently arrived at RHQ in Jul 05, sadly while the Norfolk Editor was away ‘playing soldiers’ with Suffolk ACF (and leaping from the proverbial ‘perfectly sound aircraft’ at 13 500’ with Cols Paul Denny and Paul Long.) Doug reported on his visit: ‘My visit to RHQ was very worthwhile and I found Col Tony Taylor most kind and helpful. An unexpected phone call from Capt John Lincoln inviting me to his home that afternoon was a splendid surprise. It was a very memorable 2 hours; what a great man he is! I also visited the Museum and met Dickie Bird.’ [B&C 105] |
