Sport
At the Eastern Region ACF Regional Cross Country Championships in March 2005, three of the Senior Boys Team were selected to represent Eastern Region ACF at the National Cross Country Championships at Warcop. For the 2nd year running Jamie Dines from Ipswich Guards gained a National Silver Medal.

Congratulations to:
© Major John L Raybould TDSSgt Instructor William Picton-Jenkins (PJ, as he is known in ACF circles) undertook a 152 mile sponsored walk from Sudbury, Derbyshire, to Sudbury, Suffolk, on behalf of the BBC 'Children in Need' Charity. 'It's downhill if you do it that way', he said. During the gruelling 4-day schedule that he set for himself, he slept both in a bus shelter and in a telephone box before being offered free accommodation in The Old Red Lion, Horseheath, Cambridge on his third night. The chef at the pub, Ben, even sponsored him for a fiver! PJ’s tally was 75 hrs walking and 20 hrs rest. His longest day was Sat/Sun, walking for 23 hrs, 2 am to 1 am. He raised £500 for the charity. (Click here for a full report.)
An aim, says PJ: ‘Is to walk around the world starting at the age of 65 or thereabouts.'

Personalities
Wattisham Det OC Andy Smith was promoted in April to Capt and appointment as OC A Coy and Lt Col Mike Smye (the chap with the lowest Regimental No in Suffolk ACF - 481370) moved from A Coy to County HQ Support Group. He is reported to have been seen there clad in his 1960s greatcoat!

Camp 2005
The 2005 2-week Annual Summer Camp in July/August is at Rollestone on Salisbury Plain. A vast range of activities are planned: abseiling and climbing (on a purpose-built indoor wall), archery, adventurous training, assault course, camping, canoeing, fieldcraft, First Aid, initiative tests, military training, mountain biking (or, as it is Salisbury Plain, biking on mountain bikes!), orienteering, soccer, survival techniques, target rifle shooting, tug-of-war and walking. For £70 all-found it must be the best summer 2005 bargain in Suffolk !

The initiative of our Commandant, Col Paul Denny, an additional voluntary opportunity, for extra cost, is a static line parachute jump from 3000’ or a tandem skydive from 10 000’ at the Joint Services Parachute Training Centre, Netheravon. The Suffolk ACF Webmaster is on for that, now that permission has been granted from the boss at home!

Join Us We are always looking for adults who wish to become instructors.
