HARRY AMIS who served with 1
Royal Norfolk in Germany 1945 Heather O'Sullivan wrote on behalf of her mother, Winifred Robinson (maiden name Johns) who unearthed a letter she received from Harry Amis, a soldier to whom she wrote during WW2. They never met. She only ever received one letter from him, dated 20 Apr 1945, in which he said they were ‘2 miles from Bremen, which they hoped to capture soon’. She has always wondered if he died during the battle for Bremen. The Norfolk Editor found no such casualty on the CWG site and has informed Heather. [B&C 104] Afternote from Webmaster Jun 05: Soon after his print copy of B&C 104 arrived, WO2 Alec Barr informed the Norfolk Editor that Harry served in Gt Yarmouth with A Coy, 4 R Norfolk and had 2 sons. (Thanks Sgt Major. Heather has been informed. Ed.) Further afternote from Webmaster Jul 05: Click here for even more info on Harry from Maj Roy Jenns MBE. [B&C 105] |
